WHITE CHURCH, one of the oldest churches in central India, situated at Residency Area, Old Sehore Road is celebrating its 150th anniversary on August 9 this year. Special programmes beginning from Easter on April 8 would be organised in this connection.

White Church in charge Father Rajneesh George Stephen told Hindustan Times that the original name of this church is St Ann’s Church. “Nobody actually knows it by its real name because it is painted in white and is popularly known as White Church”, informed Father Stephen. The then agent of Governor General of India, Sir Robert M C Hamilton, built the Church in 1858.

The church was built using the ancient British architecture which was prevalent in most of the Protestant churches in Britain at that time. It was built for the Christians living in India and the army personnel who came to the City often during pre-independence era. Read More...
